Below
you will find information about the State's actions to fund hydrogen
stations, cars and shuttle buses and transit buses.
- Initial California Hydrogen Highway Infrastructure funding provided over $25 million for hydrogen transit buses, light duty passenger vehicles, and hydrogen stations. The State has provided co-funding for 9 stations.
- Assembly Bill 118 (Nuñez Statutes of 2007) directs the California Energy Commission to prepare periodic Investment Plans for the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program. The program makes available approximately $100 million to co-fund alternative fuels projects, a portion of which has been set aside for hydrogen infrastructure. Clean Fuels Outlet Regulation The
Air Resources Board will be modifying the Clean Fuels Outlet regulation
(California Code of Regulations Title 13, Chapter 8) to address the
near-term needs for hydrogen infrastructure brought on by increasing
numbers of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles mandated under the Zero Emission
Vehicle regulation.

The Division of Measurements and Standards (DMS)
of the Department of Food and Agriculture has developed a hydrogen
quality (purity) standard using Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
technical information reference J-2719 and is working on a hydrogen quantity standard.

Under development are dispensing nozzle certification and filling communication hardware established per SAE J-2600 and J-2799 as well as fuel dispensing protocol per Society of Automotive Engineers technical information reference J-2601.
- Environmental Standards for Hydrogen Production -
Pursuant
to Senate Bill (SB) 1505 (Statues of 2006), the California Air
Resources Board (ARB) is to develop regulations for the production of
hydrogen as a transportation fuel. The regulations will
encompass standards for renewable energy, criteria pollutants
and greenhouse gases.
